Moving to New Home

Moving into a new residence can be pricey, yet exhilarating adventure. After spending money for down payments, closing costs, rental deposits, utility transfers, and a moving company to relocate your stuff from one location to another, there might be little money left for purchasing new furniture. If you discover yourself in a dilemma where the pieces you loved in your former home do not fit in so well in your new living space in El Paso, push up your sleeves and read up on the following DIY tricks to give your furniture a renovation!

Refinishing Wood Pieces

Many times all an old piece of wood furniture requires is a fresh coat of paint or stain to make it seem current and fresh again. Changing the look of a piece of wood furniture is easy to do during a free weekend day and will easily make it into an item that will fit into the style of your new home in El Paso. For a contemporary look, give it a bright or white finish. If you are relocating from a contemporary home to one that is older and classic, plan on warm and dark colors. You can also distress the paint job and accent it with bits of color to get a shabby chic look.

TLC for Upholstered Furniture

Do you own a couch that feels like you are reclining on a cloud of cotton when you put up your feet to watch TV, but the material is getting thin? If this sounds familiar, you may be able to save this precious piece of furniture. Give it a good wipe down with upholstery cleaner and a soft bristled brush or find a cleaning company to come over and do the hard work for you. If there are tears in the fabric, you might be able to flip the cushions over, mend the rips with upholstery needle and thread, or recover it with new material from your local craft store. Reupholstering furniture can be complicated to do the right way, but there are several videos on the internet that can help you with the steps. Teaching yourself how to fix your own furniture can save you hundreds of dollars.

Experiment with Placement

There is no set regulation that a certain item of furniture is has to be in a certain room, unless it is a bed or kitchen table. If you feel that a specific sofa table, cabinet, or bookshelf is not working in a room in your new home, move it into another room where it will work. When you move into a new home, you will most likely realize that the dimensions are different, and that furniture alignment that used to look great will not work quite the same in your new space. Arrange the furniture you own and see if you can discover a new alignment that you enjoy.

The Finishing Touches

Home decorating is a fine art and it’s lots of fun giving your new place the ambiance you love with a little creativity. Highlight architectural details, color palettes, window views, and other items by adorning each room the right way. Use art, window treatments, vases, rugs, pillows, and knick-knacks that tie the room together and allow your existing furniture blend in. If you don’t have a big decorating budget, think about making your own curtains and finding decorations at your local thrift store that can be upcycled with paint and adornments.

Moving into a new house in El Paso does not mean that you have to part ways with your beloved furniture and decorations. You can tap into your DIY skills to give your stuff a makeover and save a lot of money in the process. Be creative with the furniture placement and look for materials, paint colors, and accessories that accent your true style and showcase the beauty of your new house in El Paso.

Best. Move. Ever!
Very pleased with the overall respect and care the men gave to my possessions. Even mailing me very quickly the only thing lost in transit. Would recommend to anyone needing a long distant move.
